Lake Būšnieku is located in the northern part of Ventspils, formed by the Venta River. Lake Būšnieku is a great place for active recreation. The western shore of the lake is a nature reserve. The summer cottage microdistricts Pīpiķi, Būšnieki, as well as the Ventspils city part - Staldzene are located on the shore.
Active recreation opportunities:
- Several boat piers are located along the lake shore
- From May 1, the Ventspils Būšnieku Lake boat base offers SUP boards, pedal boats, and boat rentals for fishing or leisure
- There are several swimming areas
- An approximately 8 km nature trail runs around the lake. It is accessible with strollers and for wheelchair users with assistance. The trail includes tactile information and touchable objects, and an accessible toilet is available at the starting point
- A cycling path and a 187 m long boardwalk have been built. The boardwalk is accessible for wheelchair users with assistance. At its end, there is a birdwatching platform, a swimming area, and picnic spots
- An accessible beach is located opposite the Deer Garden (parking available), along with adapted changing cabins. A swimming wheelchair is available at the Deer Garden reception (+371 26126126). An accessible toilet is also located there
- Fishing is allowed in the lake, which is home to carp, pike, perch, tench, roach, crucian carp, rudd, eel, and burbot
